As much as I love to use completely natural brands (you guys know which ones I love), I also love the results I get from using brands that combine nature with advanced scientific ingredients & I don’t feel the least bit bad or inauthentic for using them either! 😛 See, I believe that science and nature can co-exist as long as certain criteria are followed.
And Ao Skincare takes great care to create products that are of the highest quality and eco-friendly, with sustainable ingredients from New Zealand & around the world. These thoughtfully selected ingredients are carefully blended using the latest “green” cold pressing technology in order to maintain their integrity, while also minimizing their carbon footprint.
Created by a clinical dermatologist, Ao Skincare was born out of a passion for capturing the unique qualities of New Zealand’s pure artesian water, native botanical honey, and wool extracts in an effective, modern, practitioner-grade skin care range that would actually work.
What you won’t find in their skincare:
- Mineral oils
- Artificial fragrance
I was sent their Day and Night moisturizers to try and today I want to share my thoughts with you.
Key ingredients & benefits:
- Pure New Zealand Artesian Water
Water is the largest ingredient in moisturizer. This is sourced from one of the purest places on earth; a New Zealand aquifer, 650ft below ground in the heart of pristine mountains and ancient Kauri forests.
- Vitamins C & B3 (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate and Niacinamide)
These vitamins work together as antioxidants to promote the appearance of firm skin.
- Ferulic Acid
A powerful antioxidant, which also increases the stability and potency of vitamin C.
- Gardenia Jasminoides Meristem Cell Culture (plant stem cells)
These extracts make the skin appear more firm and youthful.
- New Zealand Manuka Honey
Nourishes and draws precious moisture deep into the skin and encourages skin vitality.
This was my favorite of the two and for 3 weeks, I used this consistently as my daytime moisturizer. I will still probably go back to it as it is the perfect combination of light & hydrating and it just works for my oily, yet dry skin. My skin just drinks it up like a thirsty plant! And it doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy nor does it break me out. I’m not crazy about the smell of it, but for how well it moisturizes, allows my makeup to just glide on and how it makes my skin feel, I can deal with that minor thing!

This moisturizer is slightly richer than the daytime, though it feels light on the skin & is just as hydrating. I had some issues with breakouts when I first started using this, but I think it may have been a combination of things I was using along with this. I tried using it again recently and didn’t have any blemishes in the morning, in fact, my skin was more hydrated, brighter and smoother!
I was a bit concerned about using a product containing lanolin, as I’ve heard it causes breakouts, so always avoided it. But according to formulator, Dr. Mark Gray, lanolin that has been poorly refined contains impurities like pesticide residue that can cause allergic reactions and/or skin sensitivities. However, lanolin that has been refined to remove all of those impurities should not cause any skin issues. So unless your skin is super sensitive, lanolin shouldn’t be an issue. Also, sheep are not harmed when collecting the lanolin, as it is taken from wool that has already been sheared. 🙂
