Some Current Spring Favorites
Happy Spring, loves!! I can’t tell you how good it feels to finally be able to say that! Now, if only the weather will start acting accordingly…
To honor the transition into a new (and warmer) season, I wanted to share a few products I am loving right now – these are things that are very Spring-like as well as performance/teaching
First up, some new (and some not so new) skin care products. As with every change of season I tend to switch up my routine, but also lately my skin has been really acting up – I’m guessing the result of the constant weather fluctuations and also the stress of juggling several things at once and striving for perfection at all of them. My voice teacher keeps telling me to be kind to myself..one of these days I’ll actually listen!
The first batch of skincare products I have been using is from a newly discovered brand, called Lovinah. This skincare line takes inspiration from the ancient beauty secrets from Africa, marrying centuries-old African botanical remedies with modern technology. They offer an array of plant-based, eco-luxe, high performance & multi-functional products that are specifically designed to address skin issues as well as premature aging. Each product is lovingly and mindfully created with ethically sourced, fair trade certified organic ingredients, cold-pressed oils, botanicals, herbs, plant-based waxes (non-GMO) and eco-friendly packaging. And are formulated without parabens, phthalates, sulfates, fillers, gluten, animal testing, mineral oils, petroleum. I purchased the facial

- Dragon’s Blood Tonic – This is no mere toner – it’s a powerful facial treatment that exfoliates, cleanses, purifies, hydrates and brightens the skin. It contains a potent blend of skin protecting and soothing
dragon’sblood extract and microbiome protecting probiotics and antioxidants from fermented rooibos tea. The texture of this is more serum like than watery thanks to the second skin-like properties of the dragon’s blood, so I basically treat it as a serum and apply it with my hands, massaging it all over my face. I love how soothing and calming this is and I love that this contains so many ingredients that are great for both acne and aging. $55
- Dragon’s Blood Serum – This is a multi-tasking serum that works to boost collagen, stimulate cellular renewal and protect the skin from environmental damages. It uses a combination of both pre and probiotics as well as peptides to help maintain a healthy skin microbiome by boosting the skin’s natural defense for hydration while reducing inflammation and improving overall skin health. It’s formulated with so many incredible ingredients like aloe, colloidal gold, tremella mushroom, MSM, astaxanthin in addition to the dragon’s blood and fermented rooibos. This is a great serum for those who have issues with acne, hyperpigmentation, sensitivity, redness, or dehydration & I’ve definitely noticed a huge improvement in my skin since using this. This is probably hands down one of the best serums I’ve ever used that targets acne and provides anti-aging benefits. $125
- Dragon’s Blood Bio-Active Mask – The last product in the Dragon’s Blood series is this beautiful pink mask that balances, nourishes, brightens and detoxifies your skin to help fight acne and premature aging. Besides acting as a protective barrier to the skin, dragon’s blood contains anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, making it an effective weapon against breakouts, while also being gentle on sensitive skin. The texture is rich and creamy and feels very soothing. My skin looks much brighter and smoother and feels soft and hydrated and calm after using. $85
- Cacay Miracle Oil – If you are looking for a face oil that boosts collagen production, hydration and elasticity while also reducing acne blemishes and scarring, but isn’t the least bit irritating, then this is the one for you! What makes this oil so special is that it contains 50% more vitamin E and 2x the amount of linoleic acid than argan oil and 3x more vitamin A (nature’s retinol) than rosehip oil. It’s also rich in antioxidants and EFA’s that help to nourish and calm the skin. This is a very light, dry oil which absorbs quickly and penetrates deeply without leaving a sticky or greasy residue on the skin. Lovinah’s cacay oil is raw, organic and cold-pressed. I’ve been using this at night (mixing it with my Genetix Organic oils) and my skin is looking a lot smoother and clearer – chicken pox and acne scars I’ve had since childhood are starting to smooth out! I will definitely be purchasing this again!! $45
To help further keep my skin calm, I’ve been incorporating these Shea Terra Organics products into my routine, particularly the “Kigelia Blue Lotus Ceramide Cream” both day and night. Blue Lotus is rich in antioxidants, bioflavonoids, and phytosterols and helps to balance and soften skin, kigelia helps to plump and firm, rice ceramides hydrates and helps the skin to retain moisture, while pea peptides work to boost collagen production. This also contains skin repairing niacinamide, argan and rosehip oils. $32
Full disclosure: I haven’t put my friends from Bella Aura away (as I can’t ever be without them) – however, I noticed that my skin really craves this line in the colder months as they are just
Spring also means (for me) ditching the darker make-up shades (see ya later reds, dark berry, & dark browns!) and opting for lighter, brighter, but still bold colors – like pinks, corals, neutrals, pastels and bright berry shades. Since I have a recital coming up in June, I’ve been playing with various brands and colors and here are some of my current faves!
I honestly was never a huge fan of coral until I received these products from TBE fave, Gabriel Cosmetics. I mean, how gorgeous are these colors? And they look even better on! Not at all
The Organic Skin Co. is a brand that is new to me, and one that I have really become enamored of. Besides offering an array of downright gorgeous shades, they use organic ingredients in all of their products, are vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO. The products are housed in recyclable packaging and for every product purchased, The Organic Skin Co. will plant a tree.
The colors are super pigmented, long lasting and the formulas are just beautiful. I wish I could say that I have a favorite product from the bunch I was sent, but honestly, I love everything equally! The primer is basically like a moisturizer that helps to keep your makeup in place as it bathes your skin in organic plant oils and supercritical extracts like aloe vera, pomegranate, honeysuckle, rosemary, and amla berry, while the cream eye shadows and lip/cheek creams provide rich, bold, blendable color and the gloss and lipstick keep your lips hydrated and plump. I can’t wait to wear some of these in upcoming recitals! I think that the lip/cheek cream in “Velvet” – a vivid violet/pink, with either the eye shadow cream in “Misty” –
Last, but certainly never least, is THE makeup brand that is my HG for any and every stage performance – Jane Iredale. This is a brand that was created to fill a void for high-performance stage and screen makeup that would not only hold up under the harsh lights used on stage and for tv and movies, but that would also be healthy for the skin. Jane Iredale was the very first clean makeup I ever used (way back in 2007) and has been a staple in my routine ever since.
To keep my skin looking smooth, plump and dewy, I am loving their new Beauty Prep Hyaluronic Serum. Besides the hydrating and plumping benefits the HA provides, this also includes soothing cucumber & oat bran extract as well as hydrolyzed collagen and algae. This helps to prep my skin before my primer and allows my makeup to go on even more flawlessly. For performances, I will also be using their Pure Pressed Based (in Amber), Smooth Affair Eye Primer (in Naked) to keep my shadow in place & their So Bronze #3 to contour and add a rosy glow!
